Mike Cushion was an engineer in the automotive industry prior to joining Brooks Kushman P.C. During this time, Mike obtained much of his technical experience as a product engineer designing, developing, and managing programs in the electrical and electromechanical fields. Mike’s experience ranged from advanced product development to new product launches and on to overseeing current production programs. In fact, Mike could often be found on the manufacturing floor “getting [his] hands dirty” while solving problems, fixing testing equipment, or simply working closely alongside production staff. His involvement extended far beyond design and manufacturing, successfully cultivating close working relationships with customers. Mike has since turned his problem solving skills, technical knowledge, and “hands on” approach toward a career in Intellectual Property law. His background provides him with an excellent understanding of the numerous aspects of prosecuting patents. Mike presently performs patent prosecution for electrical, mechanical and electromechanical matters, as well as business methods. His “cradle to the grave” philosophy is aimed at achieving economically efficient results. Accordingly, Mike believes in interacting closely with clients from start to finish and well beyond. Indeed, Mike serves as a main contact for several clients, both large and small, on general legal and portfolio management matters. In addition to patent preparation and prosecution, Mike’s services include providing patentability, infringement, validity and freedom to practice opinions. Mike also provides product design-around solutions to potential infringement issues and assists in patent litigation matters.
