Bernie Tomsa has spent over six years drafting patents, opinions, responses and appeals in such varied technologies as video game software, interactive automotive software systems, digital circuits, database systems, advertisement delivery software and systems, web based applications, smart-phone applications, storage device hardware, and digital content delivery systems. Working closely with inventors throughout the patent process, Bernie seeks not only to fully encompass an invention's commercial embodiments, but also to assist the inventors in expanding the scope of the patent coverage to ensure robust claims that also have the broadest possible scope. An avid thinker and an enthusiast of creative brainstorming, Bernie will often challenge inventors to push the bounds of their creativity, to take inventions to their full breadth. Through careful discussion and educated insight, it is not uncommon for Bernie to engage inventors in discussions that result in disclosures and claims that encompass far more than the inventors' original concepts. Through this interaction, Bernie helps ensure that the patents he drafts deliver the full complement of protection to which the inventors are entitled. Bernie holds a BSE in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, as well as a JD from the George Mason School of Law in Arlington, VA. While in law school, Bernie served as an Associate Editor of the Law Review and an active member of the school's Moot Court Board. He also sat on George Mason's Board of Visitors for a year, as a student liaison. Bernie is a registered patent attorney and a member of the State Bar of Virginia.
