SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Detroit Startup Week is a free, volunteer-led event on June 18-22, 2018 that celebrates entrepreneurship in Detroit and provides free workshops and community events to promote the growth of innovative startups in the city. On June 19, Brooks Kushman attorneys David Berry and Tiffany Fidler will be moderating and speaking on a panel discussing how companies large and small can leverage their intellectual property rights and avoid IP pitfalls. The panel also will highlight key IP issues for start-ups and innovators.

Berry is a registered patent attorney and has more than 15 years of law practice experience focusing on patent litigation and IP licensing. He is the past Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Intellectual Property Section, and the current Chair of the steering committee for the Michigan Patent Pro Bono Project, a service project of the section. Berry is also an Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University Law School and is Director of the law school’s Patent Procurement Clinic.

Fidler focuses her practice on domestic and foreign patent prosecution and counseling for clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies in the electromechanical arts.  Her practice also includes design patent prosecution, and intellectual property agreements including licensing.  Fidler serves on the executive board for the Women in IP Committee for the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Michigan College of Engineering, and teaches Patent Law in the Center for Entrepreneurship.
