With over 8 years of patent searching experience, Monica performs patent and non-patent literature searches for prior art used in patent prosecution, clearance opinions and patent validity studies. She holds an Electrical Engineering degree with a concentration in satellite and global positioning systems, and her experience has covered a broad range of electrical and electro-mechanical technologies. Monica`s current focus is on emerging technology as it relates to intellectual property. Monica provides data to clients which strengthens their position in determining whether to patent an inventive concept, whether they have freedom to operate, the state of the art of a specific technology market and if there is any white space within that technology market, as well as in intellectual property negotiations, settlements and litigation. Monica works in cooperation with the attorneys at Brooks Kushman to efficiently locate issues that might arise for their clients` patent related matters. Prior to joining Brooks Kushman, Monica conducted World Intellectual Property Organization patent application examinations for the United States Patent and Trademark Office under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). In this role she conducted the PCT examination and provided the International Search Report and written opinion regarding the patentability of the invention. Monica also worked at an intellectual property firm before Brooks Kushman which gave her the training necessary to understand the many aspects of intellectual property prosecution. Before becoming an analyst, Monica worked in research and development for two major tier-one automotive suppliers, as well as holding engineering positions in industry pertaining to lighting systems, printed circuit board design, and CAN based radio systems. In Monica's spare time, she can be found in the gym or out on the boat with family and friends. For Monica, the study of movement and nutrition has always been a passion of hers, and as a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, she is able to share that passion with others.
