Bob Berliner is a registered patent attorney in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Bob has over 40 years of patent prosecution experience and works with companies around the world on the management of patent portfolios.

Bob has close familiarity with the special needs of University patent portfolios, and in assisting in the formation and operations of early stage companies. He has patent expertise in many fields, including organic and inorganic chemistry, polymers, petroleum chemistry, biotechnology, solid state electronics, physics, optics, and biomedical and other devices. A member of the Intellectual Property Rights panel of the American Arbitration Association, he has served as arbitrator in significant trade secret, contract, and biotech and pharmaceutical patent disputes.

Robert (Bob) Berliner was a founding member of the intellectual property firm of Robbins, Berliner & Carson L.L.P., and became a partner of the international general law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. following the 1997 merger of the two firms. Having decades of practice in all aspects of intellectual property, and having developed a network of top ranked associate firms in more than twenty countries, Bob then formed Berliner & Associates. The firm was a full service intellectual property firm specializing in patent, trademark and copyright prosecution, licensing and litigation, both in the United States and worldwide. Berliner & Associates then merged with Brooks Kushman in 2018.

He has also lectured on intellectual property at the University of California, Los Angeles, and taught trademark and copyright law as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Southwestern University School of Law.  Robert is a past Chairman of the Board and current member of the Board of Breathe California of Los Angeles County.
