Scott negotiates and drafts intellectual property (IP) contracts including confidentiality, development, license, option, outsource, service and work-for-hire. He considers relevant legal and marketplace conditions to obtain maximum value for clients. Through payment compliance methods, he enforces contractual rights including utilization of audit programs to analyze financial, legal and technical aspects of interest. Scott also prepares and prosecutes patent applications in the mechanical and electromechanical arts, and provides counsel on infringement, invalidity and patentability.

Scott was formerly in-house counsel at a product development company where he was responsible for handling IP transactions, creating and enforcing comprehensive IP protection programs, and advising an executive team on IP business strategies. In this role, he worked directly with toy industry entities ranging from single inventors to global companies—providing counsel at each stage of product lifecycle.

Prior to entering the legal profession, Scott spent a number of years in the automotive industry as an engineer. At General Motors for example, he created a vehicle test methodology to determine brake system drag characteristics and quantify brake system efficiency losses. Additionally, Scott implemented engineering practices in design, development and testing, and supported manufacturing and assembly facilities.
