Brooks Kushman Hires Redman and Adelman to Support Growing Trademark Practice

In response to the continued growth of its trademark practice, Brooks Kushman law firm announced today that it has hired Leon E. Redman as a senior attorney and Emily S. Adelman as an associate attorney. The announcement was made by Trademark Practice Managing Shareholder, Anessa Owen Kramer. The appointments further expand the intellectual property (IP) law firm`s trademark department, which earlier this year added industry experts Mark S. Sparschu and Timothy J. Quinlan.

In their new roles, Redman and Adelman will be responsible for counseling clients on trademark issues, managing large portfolios and supporting the enforcement needs of Brooks Kushman`s trademark clients.

With more than 35 years of IP legal experience, Redman most recently served as IP counsel for Masco Corp. of Taylor, Mich., where he managed IP assets on a worldwide basis for the organization`s multiple, large domestic and international subsidiaries. In this position, he managed a portfolio of more than 2,000 trademarks and more than 2,000 patents, as well as IP licensing, enforcement, litigation and related business acquisitions and divestitures in a broad array of industries.

Redman earned a juris doctor degree from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee. He is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Court of Customs and Patent Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court.

Additionally, Redman is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), American IP Law Association (AIPLA), Michigan IP Law Association (MIPLA), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the International Trademark Association (INTA).

Most recently, Adelman served as an associate attorney at Cook Alex Ltd. of Chicago, where she focused on U.S. and international patent and trademark prosecution matters, litigation, and patent validity and infringement analyses, as well as collaborated on various papers and presentations relating to developing patent and trademark law.

Adelman earned a juris doctor degree and a Master of Laws in IP Law from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Additionally, she participated in the Pierce Law IP Summer Institute in Beijing, studying comparative IP law, and has taken courses at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

She is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the State Bar of Illinois. She is also a member of the ABA, AIPLA, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, IP Law Association of Chicago, INTA and MIPLA.
