Seventy lawyers and patent agents. More than 1,000 years of combined legal experience. Over 3,500 intellectual property (IP) and technology-related cases litigated. More than 24,000 patent applications filed. Over 37,000 trademark applications and registrations handled. In the past 25 years, the Brooks Kushman law firm has grown dramatically from its founding by five lawyers to a nationally renowned law firm specializing in IP and technology-related causes.
“As we celebrate our first 25 years as a leading IP law firm, we rededicate ourselves to the client-focused values that we committed to when we first began this practice,” said Mark Cantor, president of Brooks Kushman. “By remaining true to the principles and values that helped us get started a quarter century ago, we expect to continue our record of growth in the next 25 years.”
Complementing its growth in capability, prominence and talent, Brooks Kushman recently expanded its reach by opening an office in Los Angeles to better service its West Coast clients and is exploring international markets to better serve global clients.
“We attribute much of our continued success and growth to our ability to adapt and evolve to meet the changing needs of the industry and our clients,” said Jim Kushman, chairman and chief executive officer of Brooks Kushman. “One of the best ways to accomplish this is to invest in qualified and diverse talent – something we are very proud of doing at Brooks Kushman.”
The IP specialty firm currently employs 17 female professionals, representing almost 25 percent of the firm`s lawyers – a unique characteristic given the IP law arena is typically a male-dominated field. To continue driving its diversity successes, the law firm has recently appointed its first chief diversity officer to strengthen its gender and minority recruitment and retention efforts.
Brooks Kushman`s capable staff allows the firm to successfully interface with a diverse group of clients – including four U.S. Fortune 100 companies – that span industries, which range from automotive to IT services, and solutions and from life sciences to telecommunications.
The law firm has successfully litigated and tried numerous cases relating to a variety of IP and technology-related matters, including its recent representation of z4 Technologies, Inc., a Michigan company, in a patent infringement suit against Microsoft Corp. and Autodesk, Inc. The suit resulted in a judgment of $140 million in favor of z4, a judgment later affirmed on appeal – one of the largest judgments of its kind.
“We look towards the next 25 years with confidence and anticipation,” Cantor said. “We have a solid team, an exceptional group of clients and the talent and ambition to continue our growth success for many years to come.”
