Southfield, Mich. – Intellectual property law firm Brooks Kushman P.C. has been taking an active role in the metro Detroit community this past month by working alongside local volunteer organizations including Gleaners Community Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity. This initiative has been named “BK Reaching Out”.
On October 26, 2012, forty attorneys and staff from Brooks Kushman participated in a Gleaners Community Food Bank event, where they helped sort and package food to deliver to those in need in the surrounding area. Gleaners is a local organization dedicated to providing high quality food to the hungry in the southeast Michigan community. Through partnerships with over 600 local food producers and distributers, Gleaners is able to reduce reliance on the emergency food system and ensure that the community is sustained and well-nourished.
In addition, on October 12, 2012, twenty attorneys and staff from Brooks Kushman participated in an all-day Habitat for Humanity event, where they painted and installed insulation in a house on the East side of Detroit. Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to provide low-income, working families with the opportunity to purchase modest, affordable housing in which to raise their families. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses in an effort to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness from the world.
