Southfield, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Shareholder and Chief Diversity Officer Sangeeta Shah was featured in Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s February 27, 2017 article, “Addressing ‘the classic pipeline issue’.”

The article focuses on how a lack of early exposure to a career in law is a core reason for the deficiency of diversity in the legal profession. Shah explains how boutique firms, like Brooks Kushman, can have a tougher time than general practices because a technical degree is required to be an IP attorney.

“Our firm is going into various colleges, and building awareness of IP as a profession for people (pursuing) a technical degree,” Shah said. “Legal diversity is challenging enough, but we have one more layer that adds even more complexity, so we’ve had to take the bull by the horns to raise awareness.”

Shah is Co-chair of Post Grant Proceedings at Brooks Kushman. She also serves as the firm’s Chief Diversity Officer, and in this role she works with the management committee whose goal is to help shape a culture of diversity and inclusiveness within the firm. With the help of her leadership, the firm has been recognized as a 101 Best and Brightest Company to Work For, Top Work Place BY the Detroit Free Press and a Diversity Focused Company winner by Corp! Magazine.
