Listing recognizes the leading Metro Detroit lawyers based on peer evaluations

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 14, 2011 – Based on thousands of peer-reviewed surveys, three Brooks Kushman lawyers were named to DBusiness magazine`s “Top Lawyers 2011” list. Firm President Mark A. Cantor, Shareholder Frank A. Angileri and Associate Hope V. Shovein all earned a spot on the Metro Detroit-specific list. No other firm had more lawyers named to the Intellectual Property (IP) Law category.

“Hope, Frank and I are all proud to be honored among the leading Metro Detroit lawyers,” Cantor said. “Recognition from one`s peers is one of the best compliments lawyers can give or, more notably, receive.”

According to DBusiness magazine, the “Top Lawyers 2011” listing is based on more than 15,000 surveys from private attorneys in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties. The respondents, all of whom were in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan, were asked to rate the top lawyers within 49 specialized practice areas. For the poll, lawyers were asked to nominate up to three attorneys in a given specialty, with particular emphasis given to lawyers chosen by attorneys outside their firm and prior honorees.

Since being named president in 2007, Cantor has successfully grown and expanded Brooks Kushman`s presence nationally and internationally. As one of the firm`s founding partners, Cantor has handled a majority of Brooks Kushman`s litigation. In addition to specializing in IP litigation, he also has an active practice advising clients on the acquisition, management and licensing of IP.

As lead counsel, Angileri works with a variety of clients – from individuals to major corporations – in a wide range of IP and commercial litigation matters. He has practiced in federal courts across the country and has argued or briefed more than 30 federal appeals. Angileri also served as chair of the IP Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and is a frequent guest lecturer for numerous organizations and universities.

Shovein focuses on trademark enforcement and litigation, with a particular emphasis in dealing with the unauthorized use of trademarks on the Internet.  She is also active in trademark prosecution and proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and she has successfully represented clients in arbitration proceedings under ICANN`s (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy to recover infringing domain names.
