SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Associate Marco Gatti was featured in Sensors Magazine’s July 24, 2015 article, “What Are Your Engineers Doing With Open-Source Code.”

In the article, Gatti, Dave McLoughlin, director of open source software (OSS) auditing for Rogue Wave Software, and Will Tu, director of embedded at ARM, discuss how engineers are using and representing OSS code, the legal pitfalls and necessary considerations when using OSS.

According to Gatti, “A majority of developers and engineers understand that OSS includes compliance obligations of some kind, but they’re usually unfamiliar with the details and the consequences of a failure to comply. It is often surprising to project managers, chief engineers, and directors who manage large projects how much OSS is used in the development of a production product they are managing.”

Gatti’s practice focuses on domestic and foreign patent prosecution and litigation support in electrical, mechanical and software matters. He counsels clients of all sizes on the development of their patent portfolio in the automotive, consumer electronics, and manufacturing industries.

He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy and a Master of Science in Engineering Management and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan – Dearborn.
