SOUTHFIELD, Mich., – Nathan Reed, Ph.D. and associate in Brooks Kushman`s Southfield office, was quoted in the Michigan Lawyers Weekly article “U.S. Supreme Court Splits Gene Patents Issue,” which ran in the June 24 issue of the publication.

In the article discussing the June 13th U.S. Supreme Court decision about the patentability of isolated human genes versus synthetically created genetic material, Reed commented that the decision essentially “split the baby,” denying patentability for the gene itself, but allowing cDNA (“a synthetically created composite genetic material”) patentable. He goes onto discuss possible strategies for life science companies to protect their investments, noting that there`s still an economic incentive for those in the industry.
