Brooks Kushman Attorneys to Speak on Panel at Autolex Automotive Legal Forum

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman attorneys Brian Doughty and David Berry will speak at the Autolex Automotive Legal Forum, organized by Managing Intellectual Property  and Benchmark Litigation in Detroit, Michigan on November 8, 2017. At the forum, legal topics over the next three to five years in IP, litigation, employment concerns, innovation vs. regulation, cybersecurity and the Internet of Things will be discussed.

Doughty and Berry will focus on IP valuation, FRAND licensing, and protection. Topics to be covered include:

  • Models for success: how are technology/software companies making deals with traditional automakers? FRAND Licensing, Indemnification agreements, and contractual consideration
  • How to maintain IP protection along the global supply chain
  • Building value in your IP portfolio
  • Tracking the emerging monetization options for automobile companies

Doughty focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, with a primary emphasis on patent litigation. Brian is also a member of the firm’s FRAND licensing practice. He works with automotive OEMs and suppliers on the development of strategies to address licensing demands from a wide variety of standard essential patent holders. Brian has worked with clients in a wide range of industries such as automotive, food and beverage, consumer products, industrial technologies, and internet software.

Berry has more than 12 years of experience as a law school professor and over 15 years of law practice experience focusing on patent litigation and IP licensing. He provides counsel to Brooks Kushman’s clients on issues of patent and licensing disputes and has represented clients in all phases of litigation, including pre-trial proceedings, bench and jury trials and appeals, including arguing before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Berry currently is chair-elect of the State Bar of Michigan Intellectual Property Law Section and is a member of the board of directors of the national Patent Pro Bono Advisory Council.
