Rachel Smith to Moderate Panel at AIPLA Roadshow

Southfield, Mich. – Brooks Kushman shareholder Rachel A. Smith will be moderating a panel called How New Guidance Will Affect Practice: A Discussion at the upcoming American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Roadshow at Rice University in Houston, TX . The panel will take place on April 25, 2019, and will focus on updates on the recent Section 101 and 112 guidelines and how they impact practice. The panel will also include Robert Bahr, Deputy Commissioner for Patent Examination Policy, USPTO; Michael Kim, Lead Administrative Patent Judge, USPTO; Marc Hubbard, Hubbard Johnston PLLC; and Irene Kosturakis, BMC Software.

Smith is a registered patent attorney and focuses her practice primarily on domestic and foreign patent prosecution and has a deep understanding of various technologies in the mechanical and electrical arts. In particular, she has extensive experience prosecuting patent appli cations in consumer electronics, automotive, medical device, and network technologies. Her practice further includes drafting patentability, infringement, validity and freedom to operate opinions.

Smith also consults clients on open source software license agreements, and works with them to understand complex software licenses and copyright matters. She is also the current president of the Michigan intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA), and serves on the AIPLA Women in IP Law Committee.
