SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Shareholders Todd Dishman and Mark Jotanovic to attend the 2020 National Patent Application Drafting Competition this week at the Elijah J. McCoy Midwest Regional USPTO. Brooks Kushman is also sponsoring the event this year.

The annual International Patent Drafting Competition takes place at the beginning of each year to offer student teams the opportunity to present their patent applications in front of a panel of judges comprised of patent examiners, practitioners, and several high-profile guest judges. This competition began as just four teams in 2016 to now over 15 teams from across the United States and Canada.

During the competition, student teams are given a hypothetical invention statement for which they will search for prior art, prepare a specification, draft claims, and present their reasoning for patentability before a panel of judges comprised of patent examiners, practitioners, and high-profile guest judges.
