Share

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGANBrooks Kushman is delighted to announce that the firm has achieved Midsize Mansfield Certification Plus status for 2020-2022— the highest available level of certification. All of the firms who participated in this inaugural Midsize Mansfield Rule achieved Certification. Only 16 firms additionally achieved “Plus” status and we are proud that Brooks Kushman was one of them.

This certification, hosted by Diversity Lab, is designed to increase the representation of diverse lawyers in firm leadership. To achieve this certification, the firm completed a rigorous 18-month collaboration with Diversity Lab beginning in September 2020. In order to become certified, entities such as Brooks Kushman were required to broaden the pool of attorneys considered for various opportunities and leadership positions. Additionally, participants were encouraged to make real and tangible progress to achieve more diverse internal teams, encourage cohesive and inclusive work environments, and decrease the tendency to work in isolation.

“The principles of the Mansfield Rule align with Brooks Kushman’s core values of advancing equity, inclusion, and diversity in our firm and the legal profession.  With the support of Diversity Lab and the Mansfield framework, we were able to take the necessary steps to grow and evolve our practices and processes in objective ways to secure the challenging Midsize Mansfield Certification Plus certification.   We are proud of the progress we’ve made to date and embrace the work that lies ahead to foster a more inclusive work environment.” says Sangeeta Shah, CEO of Brooks Kushman.

The Certification “Plus” designation the firm received applies to entities that go above and beyond the standard Mansfield Certification – not only initiating programs that help increase the visibility of diverse attorneys but also illustrating actual changes within the entity – proving that the initiatives are working.

“I am so proud of everyone at the firm whose efforts went into making this happen. This program provided beneficial guidance that helped us convert our vision to measurable progress. I’m excited not only about what the future holds for Brooks Kushman as we continue on our journey towards achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion, but also about the prospect of meaningful forward strides in the legal community as more and more firms embrace initiatives such this to drive positive change,” says Chanille Carswell, Chief Diversity Officer.
