Brooks Kushman Chief Diversity Officer Chanille Carswell Mentioned in Crain’s People on the Move

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Chief Diversity Officer and Co-Chair of Litigation Chanille Carswell has been mentioned in the Crain’s Detroit People on the Move for her recent appointment to Chief Diversity Officer.

In this role, Carswell will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the firm. Carswell has been active within our Diversity Committee, but in this expanded role she will continue to focus her efforts on widening Brooks Kushman’s involvement in DEI associations, pipeline initiatives, and community outreach programs, in addition to hiring, mentoring, and promoting diverse professionals, continuing to make Brooks Kushman a leader in the DEI space.

Within the firm, Carswell has worked hard to help reshape the firm’s diversity efforts through championing many of our key diversity initiatives. She has been a leader in designing our internal diversity training as well as refining the structure of our diversity program and committee. As the new Chief Diversity Officer, Carswell will continue to improve transparency and objectiveness in our hiring and promotional processes, improve metric tracking so we are aware of and able to address shortfalls, and ensure opportunities for diverse individuals to grow and succeed.

Carswell is active in the legal community and is particularly dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) both within not just Brooks Kushman but within the greater community. As a part of these efforts, she facilitates the firm’s participation in the Wolverine Bar Association’s Summer Clerkship Program. Carswell was also a 2015 Fellow within the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and is the Membership Chair for the Michigan Intellectual Property Inn of Court. Carswell is passionate about giving back to her community and prioritizes civic engagement activities to improve her local community. She is a regular supporter of Alternatives for Girls, a nonprofit organization that serves homeless and at-risk girls and women in her hometown, Detroit.
