SOUTHFIELD, Mich., – To support and foster the growth of women in the intellectual property (IP) field, Brooks Kushman P.C., the largest IP firm in Michigan, is hosting the American Intellectual Property Law Association`s (AIPLA) “2013 Cross-Country Women in IP Networking Event” for the Detroit region. This is the second year that Brooks Kushman will host the event, which will take place Thursday, May 23 at The Rattlesnake Club restaurant located in the same complex as the Elijah J. McCoy U.S. Patent and Trademark Office`s (USPTO) Satellite Office in Detroit.

The Detroit reception is part of a simultaneous 31-city event that brings together women in the IP law arena. The evening will begin with tours of the USPTO Satellite Office, for those interested, and conclude with the traditional nationwide teleconference.

“Brooks Kushman is excited and proud to host the event for a second year, as it fits squarely with our firm`s diversity and women`s initiatives,” said Sangeeta Shah, shareholder and chief diversity officer, Brooks Kushman.

Brooks Kushman`s Women`s Initiative provides a supportive and strategic framework for the firm`s 18 women IP professionals to enhance career growth. According to Shah, “the AIPLA event is a natural extension of our efforts to promote women in the field.”

The AIPLA Women in IP Law Committee works to facilitate the practice of IP law by women through educational events, networking and mentoring, including a nationwide networking dinner for women in IP law to help connect women in key geographic areas and empower and foster successful professional relationships. All women in the IP legal field are welcome to attend the Detroit event.

“We strive to make the Detroit region`s AIPLA event a fun, relaxed gathering for women in the intellectual property legal field to connect,” said Hope Shovein, trademark associate, Brooks Kushman.
