Brooks Kushman Attorney Named State Bar of Michigan Section Chair

Southfield, Mich.Brooks Kushman attorney Anna K. Heinl has been named the State Bar of Michigan’s Arts, Communications, Entertainment & Sports (ACES) section chair for the 2015-16 term.

The Arts, Communications, Entertainment & Sports Section of the State Bar of Michigan provides education, information and analysis about issues of concern in the creative sector through meetings, seminars, its state bar website and public service programs. Membership in the Section is open to all members of the State Bar of Michigan.

As section chair Anna’s responsibilities include oversight of the group of nearly 500 members, coordination of the section’s annual business meeting which hosted a discussion on the Detroit bankruptcy and its effects on the Detroit Institute of Arts, and hosting other events of interest to members including a summer social and hot topics seminar. Her focus this year will be outreach to law students to promote involvement in ACES as well as generating interest in other sections of the Bar. The section’s next meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 and will include a special presentation from the director of Lawyers for the Creative Economy services about the organization, which pairs creatives and volunteer attorneys to handle a variety of legal issues.

Anna’s practice involves clearance, maintenance and enforcement of trademark rights and copyright protection and enforcement work. Her practice also encompasses trade dress, internet and IP-related entertainment law. She has experience managing client portfolios, providing clearance opinions, devising filing strategies, negotiating agreements, and defending intellectual property rights through Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings, cease and desist communications, online take-down procedures under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and domain name disputes.
