SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman is proud to announce that Attorney Robert Berliner was selected to receive the SoCalBio Board of Directors’ Outstanding Service Award by the Southern California Biomedical (SoCalBio) Council. The award was announced yesterday, December 10, 2020 at the SoCalBio Award Gala.
Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio) is a nonprofit, member-supported trade association that serves the biotech, med tech, IVD and digital health communities in the six counties that comprise the Greater Los Angeles region (Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Riverside and San Bernardino). SoCalBio’s programs help local firms gain access to capital, potential partners, and other business services. The Council also promotes technology transfer and workforce training, while informing policymakers and the public at-large about the benefits of the region’s bioscience industry.
Bob Berliner is a Founding Board Member of the SoCalBio. For more than two decades, he has helped shepherd the organization’s growth and sponsored its activities. He has been an astute mentor of emerging entrepreneurs on IP matters in the Greater Los Angeles area, covering many fields including organic and inorganic chemistry, polymers, petroleum chemistry, biotechnology, solid state electronics, physics, optics, and biomedical devices to name a few.
Berliner is a registered patent attorney at the firm’s Los Angeles office. Bob has over 40 years of patent prosecution experience and works with companies around the world on the management of patent portfolios. Bob has close familiarity with the special needs of University patent portfolios, and in assisting in the formation and operations of early stage companies. He has patent expertise in many fields, including organic and inorganic chemistry, polymers, petroleum chemistry, biotechnology, solid state electronics, physics, optics, and biomedical and other devices. A member of the Intellectual Property Rights panel of the American Arbitration Association, he has served as arbitrator in significant trade secret, contract, and biotech and pharmaceutical patent disputes.
