Brooks Kushman Expands Patent Prosecution and Litigation Practice With Two New Associates

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman – a nationally ranked intellectual property (IP) and technology law firm – is pleased to announce Todd Dishman and Jaewook (JK) Ryu have joined the firm as associates.

“We are pleased to welcome both Todd and JK to our growing team,” said Mark Cantor, president of Brooks Kushman. “Their skills and past successes will bring a fresh perspective to our clients and the industry, and greatly benefit our practice.” With the addition of Dishman and Jaewook, Brooks Kushman has grown by more than ten attorneys this year, several being lateral hires.

Prior to joining Brooks Kushman, Jaewook was a research scientist, specializing in MEMS/bio-MEMS at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology & Military Service, based in Seoul, Korea. He also has significant experience as a patent agent drafting provisional and non-provisional patent applications on mechanical, electrical and electromechanical arts.

Jaewook has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He also is working on a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering concentrated on Telecommunications and Solid State Devices from the University of California, and a has Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Jaewook also holds three patents and is fluent in Korean. He will be based at our Southfield, Michigan office, where he will practice patent prosecution.

Dishman joins the firm after serving as in-house patent counsel for General Motors. At Brooks Kushman, he will focus his practice on patent prosecution and litigation matters in mechanical and electromechanical arts. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, he worked for Ford Motor Company for 10 years as a design engineer for body systems, body structures, closures, sealing, and electromechanical hardware. Dishman is a named inventor for several patented innovations related to body closures and sealing.

Dishman has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy, where he graduated magna cum laude. Dishman will also be based in Brooks Kushman’s Southfield, Michigan office.
