Brooks Kushman Hosts Michigan’s First Event to Help Girl Scouts Earn IP Patch

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman hosted an event on Saturday, March 21, 2015 for Girl Scouts in the Heart of Michigan Troop to earn their IP Patch. During the event, held at the Ypsilanti Ann Arbor Regional Center, Girl Scouts heard from six Brooks Kushman attorneys on the IP tools inventors can use to protect their innovations while sharing them with others.

“We are proud to offer the first opportunity for Girl Scouts to earn their IP Patch in Michigan,” said Brooks Kushman Shareholder Elizabeth Janda. “These events offer valuable lessons for girls about the career opportunities available to them in intellectual property law and other STEM industries.”

The IP Patch is available to four levels of Girl Scouts (Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior). It was created by the Girl Scouts as a supplement to the Innovation badge series with the help of industry partners like the Intellectual Property Owners Educational Foundation and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

As Girl Scouts earn each of the four levels of the IP Patch, they will learn how to think like an inventor, how inventions can improve lives, how to think like an entrepreneur and how to identify and develop solutions for social problems.

Brooks Kushman presenters during the event were Shareholders Elizabeth Janda and Kristin Murphy, Senior Attorney Jennifer Ziegler, Associates Rebecca Cantor and Rachel Smith and Law Clerk Lauren Rennert.
Brooks Kushman will also be holding four additional IP Patch events throughout the 2015-16 Girl Scout calendar year. Girl Scouts of each level will have the chance to earn the IP Patch by attending one of the firm’s events.
