SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGANBrooks Kushman is delighted to announce that the firm has achieved Midsize Mansfield Certification Plus status again for 2022-2023 — the highest available level of certification. Of approximately 350 firms who participated in this cycle of Mansfield Rule achieved Certification, only about half of all participating firms additionally achieved “Plus” status and we are proud that Brooks Kushman was one of them.

To achieve Mansfield Certification, firms implement a behavioral science and data-driven approach designed by Diversity Lab in collaboration with talent experts, data scientists, and lawyers to help increase diversity in leadership. Certified firms considered broad slates of qualified, talented individuals for leadership roles that include at least 30% historically underrepresented lawyers such as women lawyers, underrepresented racial and ethnically diverse lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities. In addition, as a part of the Certification process, firms work hard to enhance transparency of leadership roles, advancement processes, and compensation policies.

The methodology behind the Mansfield program has been proven to build more diverse leadership teams through being rooted in changes to systems and processes, never exclusivity or discrimination. Opportunities for advancement are inclusive by broadening talent pools and in essence, opening the door wider for more qualified individuals to be considered for better career opportunities at our firm. The Certification “Plus” designation the firm received is a designation reserved for firms that voluntarily measure the outcomes of their inclusive processes and have achieved positive results statistically.

“The principles of the Mansfield Rule align with Brooks Kushman’s core values of advancing equity, inclusion, and diversity in our firm and the legal profession.  With the support of Diversity Lab and the Mansfield framework, we have been able to take and continue to sustain the necessary steps to grow and evolve our practices and processes in objective ways to secure the challenging Midsize Mansfield Certification Plus certification.  We are proud of the progress we’ve made to date and embrace the work that lies ahead to foster a more inclusive work environment.” says Sangeeta Shah, CEO of Brooks Kushman.

Diversity Lab designs, tests, and measures the outcomes of science-based and data-driven talent practices that allow for fair and equal access to advancement opportunities. Their primary focus is on leaders in the law, since they often rise to positions of influence in government, boardrooms, courtrooms, and beyond. The more diverse our leadership, the more inclusive and equitable the decisions will be that benefit the entire workforce and society.
