Brooks Kushman Shareholders to Present at The Big M Manufacturing Convergence

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman, Shareholders Kristin Murphy and John LeRoy will present at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers` Big M Manufacturing Convergence on June 11.

Murphy and LeRoy will host a breakout session, “Innovation and Invention: What Sets One Company Apart From its Competitors” during the event. Their session will cover the United States` new “First to File” patent system, legal risks associated with implementation of open source software (OSS), and how these issues affect companies` ability to protect their innovations and commercial advantages.

Murphy is a registered patent attorney and focuses her practice on doestic and foreign patent prosecution. She is also the Chair of Brooks Kushman`s IP Due Diligence practice. In her role, she counsels companies, venture capitalists, and investors by helping them evaluate the viability of patent portfolio assets and properly understand the strengths and weaknesses of those assets which enables them to make critical investment decisions.

LeRoy`s practice focuses on patent litigation in the software, electrical, and mechanical arts. He is also the Chair of Brooks Kushman`s open source software audit and compliance practice. In that role, he consults clients on the use of open source software and creates compliance programs to help clients comply with various license terms.

The Big M Event gathers industry professionals, manufacturers and policymakers to discuss the most complex manufacturing challenges. The event focuses on finding real-world solutions by harnessing the collective knowledge of manufacturers across industries.
