Firm also recognized as a “highly recommended” Michigan IP law firm

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Four Brooks Kushman P.C. Shareholders have been honored as Michigan IP Stars for 2013 by Managing Intellectual Property magazine. Firm President Mark A. Cantor and shareholders Frank A. Angileri, Elizabeth F. Janda and Robert C.J. Tuttle were named to this year`s list of IP Stars. Brooks Kushman was also recognized as one of five “highly recommended” IP law firms in Michigan by the journal.

“Being recognized by colleagues and peers is very rewarding and I congratulate all of this year`s IP Stars, especially Frank, Elizabeth and Robert,” said Cantor. “One of our goals when we started Brooks Kushman 30 years ago was to become the largest and best IP law firm in Michigan. After being named the largest IP law firm in Michigan earlier this year, this further solidifies that we`ve taken the right path for success.”

Brooks Kushman`s IP Stars include:

  • Mark A. Cantor – In a notable courtroom win, attorneys obtained a $1.75 million jury verdict on behalf of client Innovation Ventures, the maker of the famous 5-hour Energy ® shot, in a trademark infringement action in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The Court also awarded the client $1.25 million in attorney fees. Cantor was lead counsel in this case. He has been crucial to the firm's growth and opening of the Los Angeles office. Beyond his expertise handling litigation, Cantor is active providing counseling services to clients on acquisitions, licensing deals and managing IP assets and portfolios;
  • Frank A. Angileri – Passionate about getting superior results for his clients and helping their businesses flourish, Angileri views himself as a partner and advisor and plays a vital role in their successes. In one instance, Angileri served as Brooks Kushman`s lead counsel on behalf of an original equipment manufacturer and successfully asserted design patents in the automotive industry, a first for the industry;
  • Elizabeth F. Janda – With more than 27 years of experience as a trademark practitioner and specialist with Brooks Kushman, Janda manages substantial trademark portfolios both domestically and internationally, and works closely with a network of vetted international contacts that the firm has developed over the past decades. She`s an expert in trademark matters across a variety of industries, including automotive, food products, advertising and marketing, insurance, mortgage companies, banks and credit unions, and consumer products and services; and
  • Robert C.J. Tuttle – Described as an "aggressive, top-notch litigator," Tuttle is consistently recommended by peers in Michigan and was named Michigan's 2013 Litigator of the Year by Managing IP. In early 2012, Tuttle played a key role in obtaining a win on behalf of client Double L, an operator of restaurants throughout Michigan, in a trademark dispute in the Eastern District of Michigan involving Double L's "LUCKY'S" trademarks.

According to Managing Intellectual Property magazine, its IP Stars ratings are based on research of over 1,000 interviews and surveys completed by partners and law firms active in the United States. Partners are also able to indicate through online votes, top practitioners in their respective states. To help inform the research process, research is additionally conducted through discussions with clients and leading in-house counsel, while also reviewing public information and coverage.
