Royal Oak, MichiganBrooks Kushman is proud to announce that John LeRoy has been recognized for the first time in the 2026 Chambers USA Guide, earning a Band 2 ranking in Intellectual Property in Michigan. This distinction reflects his reputation as a trusted advisor on complex intellectual property matters and marks a significant milestone in his practice. This recognition is particularly notable as it represents John’s first year being ranked, underscoring both the competitiveness of the Chambers process and the strength of the client and peer feedback supporting his inclusion.

John is a member of Brooks Kushman’s executive committee and focuses his practice on high-stakes intellectual property litigation, including patent, trade secret, and copyright disputes involving software, electronics, and mechanical systems. Over the course of his career, John has built a strong track record handling complex, high-value disputes. He has secured a nine-figure jury verdict with enhanced damages in a patent infringement case involving widely used software products and has successfully defended clients in matters where plaintiffs sought hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, resulting in findings of no liability. His work also includes representing automotive industry clients in multi-patent disputes and litigation involving enterprise software and connected vehicle systems.

In addition to his litigation practice, John plays a leading role in advising companies on standard essential patent licensing and open source software compliance, working with automotive OEMs, suppliers, and technology companies on complex and evolving IP issues. Clients and peers interviewed by Chambers highlighted his strong commercial understanding and said, “John LeRoy is great. He knows our business side really well and is our go-to voice.”

This first-time ranking reflects more than two decades of intellectual property litigation experience, leadership within the firm, and consistent involvement in complex, high-stakes matters across industries, all of which contributed to his recognition in this year’s Chambers guide.

The Chambers USA Guide ranks the leading lawyers and law firms across the country each year based entirely on independent research and client feedback, making inclusion a meaningful indicator of distinction in the legal industry.
