SOUTHFIELD, Michigan– Brooks Kushman CEO Sangeeta Shah was featured in a recent IPWatchdog article titled, “Who Will it Be? IP Practitioners Name Their Picks for Biden CAFC Appointee Following Judge Wallach’s Retirement.” This article discusses U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) Judge Evan J. Wallach’s announcement that he will be retiring from active service and assuming senior status this year. This means that President Biden will have a position to fill. Because of the many important IP issues playing out recently in the CAFC, the article focuses on the IP community’s views on who should take that role.

Sangeeta Shah was one of the IP professionals featured for her opinion on the matter. To summarize, Shah notes her hope for the Biden administration to consider nominating a member of the patent bar to fill this vacancy.  Due to the Federal Circuit’s role in handling patent appeals from both the USPTO and district courts, their decisions have “substantial impact on the patent system and, by extension, the country’s ability to promote the ‘progress of science and useful arts.’” She goes on to state that a “nominee with a deep understanding of the complex intricacies of the USPTO and patent law is needed to help bridge the current divide” on issues such as patent eligibility.

Sangeeta Shah is the CEO of Brooks Kushman, responsible for leading the firm’s Executive Committee. In addition to serving as the CEO, Sangeeta maintains an active docket as an IP practitioner with over 20 years of experience in managing patent portfolios, PTAB matters, patent litigation and opinions.  Sangeeta works closely with several Fortune 500 clients for whom she provides strategic counseling and guidance on global intellectual property portfolios. Her patent expertise has resulted in national recognition from Managing IP, Best Lawyers, IAM, AIPLA and the PTAB Bar Association.
