  • Patent Prosecution

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman shareholder Bernard Tomsa will be presenting at the IPWatchdog CON2020 in Dallas. This event brings together top speakers with industry dignitaries to connect leaders of the industry with thought-provoking content and networking.

Patents have been and continue to be an important asset for innovators. Unfortunately, however, a patent is not an asset that typically possesses flexibility and adaptability. In the presentation titled, “Preparing and Prosecuting Patents that Hold Up to Challenge,” Tomsa’s group will discuss the pros and cons of having a Background (101 vs. 103), claim terms and infringers, fixing problems before and after allowance, when to take a case to appeal, and portfolio building techniques.

Tomsa has drafted hundreds of patents in his career. He has extensive experience with software patent applications. Tomsa works with several multi-national corporations on the management of large patent portfolios. Understanding the competitive advantage that can be obtained through the application of modern computing technology to portfolio management, Tomsa has developed expertise with software providing analytical portfolio analysis. Tomsa holds a BSE in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, as well as a JD from the George Mason School of Law in Arlington, VA. Bernie is a registered patent attorney and a member of the State Bar of Virginia.

IPWatchdog is recognized as one of the leading sources for news, information, analysis, and commentary in the patent and innovation industries, and is currently the largest intellectual property publication in the world.
