Brooks Kushman Shareholder to Discuss Software Patentability on USPTO Panel

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Shareholder John LeRoy will serve on a panel during a United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) program exploring software patentability at Lawrence Technical University in Southfield, Michigan on May 20, 2015.

LeRoy will join two other panelists and moderator Christal Sheppard, director of the USPTO’s Detroit office to discuss software patentability in light of the U.S. Supreme Court decision on Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank. The ruling has led to widespread changes in the way that software companies patent their products and ideas.

LeRoy is the chair of Brooks Kushman’s Open Source Compliance practice. His practice focuses on patent litigation in the software, electrical and mechanical arts. With over 15 years of patent litigation experience, he has represented clients in virtually every industry. John has successfully tried patent cases in Federal Courts nationwide and has successfully handled appeals before Federal Circuit.

LeRoy holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton, a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Buffalo.
