Brooks Kushman’s Lewry Shares Patent Writing Tips in Crain’s Detroit Business

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Shareholder Thomas Lewry was featured in Crain’s Detroit Business July 11, 2015 article, “How to write a solid patent: Innovators offer tips.”

In the article, Lewry and Mohammed Islam, founder of Cheetah Omnni LLC, share their proven strategies for innovators to protect their inventions. Lewry and Islam outline three patent-writing tips in the article: think, and write, broadly; conduct a prior art search; and focus on the claims.

Lewry has more than 30 years of intellectual property (IP) litigation experience, focusing on a variety of IP matters including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. In addition to his practice, Lewry is an adjunct professor at Wayne State University’s Law School and a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan. He holds a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan.
